I recently attend a 2 day course about advanced communication skills for healthcare. It was organised and teached by only one instructor. Initially I thought it will be very hard for one teacher to deliver all teaching sessions 8 hours a day alone. This teacher was amazing in his techniques.

First he had very organised lesson plan ahead

He divided the course into topics and handed students hard copy of the materials.

Additionally his audio-visual powerpoints was very simple and target the lesson objectives.

On the second day he divided the participants into two group and offered us a quiz ,He asked every group to write on different whiteboard the theories and titles we had learnt from the previous day. By adopting this strategy we , In one hour only, had  the challenges and brain storming  to review day one curriculum again in a wonderful environment. He had to give us the chance to talk and express our ideas and knowledge during his talk , So that  the class at the end was like a small family. At the end he made real life  applicable scenarios of communication skills such as breaking bad news and managing angry patients. I understand from his approach that he used a very good lesson planning to cover 2 days course alone.

The essentials for learning and developing a good lesson plan the teacher included in this sessions summarised by:-  he has an objectives, models his expectations, engage us in teaching, and compliments positive participation and hard work.

To achieve   an additional  considerations for creating a lesson plan he provided extra practice to allow  implement of skills

One of the challenges in developing lesson plans is secure knowledge then apply it and  this course was a good example of that method.
